What a finish to the game! Gujarat hold their nerve for the second match in succession this season to win a nail-biter against Pune. Chasing a mammoth target of 196, Gujarat's openers Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith took their team off to an exceptional start that made light work of the big target. The 93-run stand off just 49 balls virtually gave the tourists the advantage despite the enormity of the target. However, as in recent games, the duo's departure slowed the innings a bit as Pune managed to claw their way back into the match.

Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik put on a solid 51-run stand to consolidate on the rapid start but the former departed with 30 needed from 22. Pune kept clinging on although some poor bowling at the end allowed Gujarat to release the pressure whenever needed. 9 was needed off the final over but Perera lost the plot in the initial deliveries to virtually kill the chase. A couple of wickets off successive balls did keep the interest alive but Faulkner ensured that there would be no miracles for Pune in the end. A hard pill to swallow for the hosts after having batted so well.

Murugan Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers although he didn't get a wicket. His 18th over was top class, conceding just 4 runs to keep the game alive. Dinda and Perera did take wickets but were expensive and therefore allowed Gujarat to motor along in the chase despite having a huge required run rate to deal with. Pune's bowling once again let them down at vital moments in the match.

It was the second time this season that a batsman had scored a century against Gujarat but both times they ensured that the efforts were in vain. It's 5/5 in chases for the tourists this season as they continue to be on top of the table. Pune's season continues to go downhill as they find themselves at the bottom half of the pool.

We stuck to our plans, although not on the field. We dropped so many catches (laughs). So we have got to get back to the dashboard. I think Pollard's form is crucial for us. I would like to thank the crowd for their support. Unfortunately we have to move, but their support was superb. Mumbai crowd is always good, they enjoy cricket, no matter which team plays. Kolkata were off to a flier as they raced to 50 inside the Powerplay. But after the fielding restrictions were removed, the run rate dipped and the batsmen struggled to get boundaries. The pressure told on Uthappa who lost his wicket. Gambhir tried to up the ante but he too fell to the clever wily bowling. Once he went, the visiting side could not get any momentum.

Kolkata finish on 174/5. A decent batting display from Kolkata, though, they were aided a lot by Mumbai. Mitchell McClenaghan set the tone early for bad fielding, as he dropped a sitter of Gambhir when he was on 8. Parthiv Patel then missed an easy stumping chance of Uthappa and there were plenty of poor ground fielding attempts as well. But the bowlers did their job and hung around for the breakthrough, even when Gambhir and Uthappa were toying around.

Not quite sure whether this would be a good score. Traditionally, Wankhede has seen scores in excess of 180 but tonight's pitch seems to be on the slower side. But with the dew coming into play, the bowlers would not find it easy.

Mumbai came back really well after the Powerplay, going for just 67 in overs 7-15, before going for 48 in the final 5. No bowler was outstanding though they might have had a different outcome had the catches been taken. They will feel that they can chase it down but it won't be easy.

What a match. Absolute thriller of a contest.  Both the teams had equal chance and it was Gujarat who held nerves in the end to emerge victorious.

 

Delhi lost early wickets as they were 16/3 at one stage and their middle order had a mountain to climb. Pant, on debut got a start but failed to convert. And then we saw something special from Chris Morris. The South African shared a superb 87-run stand with his country mate and brought the game close. Some fantastic last two overs made sure Delhi don't cross the line in the end. Chris Morris finished unbeaten on 82 off just 32 balls.

The run chase was divided into two halves. First Delhi started off poorly but came back stronger in the next 10 overs. It was Chris Morris, the million dollar baby gave us a thriller of a contest. The crowd totally enjoyed it although their side lost by a mere one run.


 Man of the Match, Chris Morris:  I'm just very happy I contributed today. Personally happy. I was quite lucky to be honest. Just happy that I could contribute. Last few months I've practiced on my batting. You have to give yourself some time. It hurts when you lose tight ones like this. (Whether this one was his best T20 game) Definitely. This one was one of the best knocks I played.

With a very low total to defend, Hyderabad's bowlers were erratic. They wasted the new ball and barring a few deliveries from Mustafizur Rahman, the hosts' bowlers were hardly threatening. Easy runs were gifted to the Pune batsmen and they obliged by putting the freebies away to coast to a comfortable win. Earlier in the evening, Shikhar Dhawan stood tall amidst the ruins as Hyderabad produced a pathetic batting performance. The Indian opener's knock and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's cameo gave some respectability to the score but it was never going to be enough.

 Ashok Dinda (Man of the Match) -  (On his performance) Yea, very happy. The wicket was a good one for fast bowlers and I just maintained the line and length. (On MS Dhoni's support) He always helped me and told me on how to bowl to David Warner and Naman Ojha. (On his celebration resembling footballer Cristiano Ronaldo's antics) I am a big fan of Ronaldo. (On maintaining his form) Hopefully, I can keep it going.

That brings us to the end of our coverage for this game. A bit of an anti-climax eventually with the rains coming in. However, the result was never in doubt and it was a one-sided encounter. Debutant Shamsi did a good job too while Richardson got some cheap wickets at the end to help himself to a 3-fer. Overall, Bangalore held their nerves when it mattered to seal the win. They are the only team to win matches batting first this season and they have done it twice now. Earlier in the evening, AB and Kohli fired Bangalore to a mammoth total that eventually proved to be enough on a slightly sluggish track.
That completes a rather comfortable win for Bangalore, although Perera and Bhatia did give them a scare in the end overs. Chasing a mammoth 186 to win, Pune had the most disastrous of starts to their innings, losing Faf early while Pietersen retired hurt. Smith ran himself out and the innings was in all kinds of problems. Rahane and Dhoni stitched a 91-run stand to repair the damage but the latter struggled to get the big hits going.
