India vs srilanka 2015 Test series Highlights

A 22-year wait finally ends as India win a Test series in Sri Lanka. A magnificent win for India. An away series victory after 4 years, the previous one being in the West Indies in 2011. This is also the first time that India have come from behind to win a Test series away from home. This is the third instance overall in Test cricket for the Asian giants.

312 was not supposed to be too big a total but the Sri Lankans were wrong. Ishant wreaked havoc with a 5-fer in the first innings and bowled the Lankans out for 201, which would have been even worse, had it not been for Kusal Perera's counter-attacking half century. They were 48/6 at one stage. Sri Lanka could have been bowled out under 100 had it not been for Lokesh Rahul who dropped him on 9. Also, Herath chipped in with a crucial 49 which helped lessen the deficit.

If India were happy with the 111-run lead, they were shocked in a matter of minutes. Pujara was cleaned up on the very second ball and in next to no time, India were reeling at 7/3. But some disciplined patient batting by the middle order and even the lower one, saw the lead swell to 385.

Right then, with 117 overs left and a target of 386 set, India were the favourites. And the first 7 overs almost sealed the fate too. 21/3 were the Sri Lankans and a defeat was imminent. Or was it? Not for the warrior Mathews. He battled with grit and determination and made a fine century. This morning the Lankans lost their way but Mathews found an able partner in Kusal Perera and the pair added 135 for the 6th wicket. At one stage, just before tea, it seemed as if the Lankans could eke out a draw. But it was just a matter of time before the Indians wrapped things up and in spite of that stand, the Lankans could not avoid a defeat.

Man of the Series - Ravichandran Ashwin: I would like to thank my teammates. The boys took the catches brilliantly and that helped me. It was a good experience here. When the series began we were here for practice matches and that has helped me here to make my experience count. It's been quite long that I didn't get the opportunity to show my skills am I happy to show it here. The coaches have been very patient with me and I am extremely happy to pay them back with a fifty.

Virat Kohli: Ya indeed being 0-1 down it is never easy to come back. But we played well, kept calm and created a bit of history. It was a collective effort from the boys and that has helped us. Feels nice to create history with new faces in the side. Everyone has played well in all the departments. Injuries always frustrate the team and management has done well. This is an amazing feeling to win this series especially after coming back. I think we need to pat ourselves the way we have played and the kind of attitude we have shown everybody will be proud of it. I am very happy with the way the boys have played.

Angelo Mathews: Ya very disappointed. Pujara batted very well in the first innings. Bowlers did a good job right throughout. We gave them more than 100 runs lead and that was not a good thing. We batted well in the second innings but in the first innings our batting should have been better. We had a chance today, if myself had carried for a longer you never know this game could have gone any way. But congratulations to India.
Man of the Match - Cheteshwar Pujara: Thank you, thanks a lot. It was a very good opportunity for me. We won the series and I am very happy with it. Obviously facing the new ball was challenging, I trusted my batting and I am very happy with the win. I wasn't sure if I was the fourth player carrying the bat throughout.
